Digital Citizenship Perspectives-Students_Individual Awareness

Overview/description

This information explains why individuals should be cautious and aware of their online and offline life. This Core Competency Area explains what students should act like and be aware of when it comes to technology. It explains that students should be aware of digital life and practice Digital Citizenship. [1]

Examples

Bill Draper wrote an article about the theft of kids' Social Security numbers. Businesses find numbers not being used and sell them under a different name.
Kids whose Social Security numbers are stolen have the perspective (if they are aware of the situation) that whoever took their number is not being nice at all. So, in a sense, this is an example of this Core Competency Area and Area of Awareness because students are individually aware of the poor digital citizenship being practiced.
The theft of kids' Social Security numbers relates to this because it involves the issue of problems with a kid's digital life.
